Q&A with Psychiatry Grand Rounds speaker, Dr. Bonnie Spring, PhD

The Tech Hub is excited to welcome Stanford Psychiatry Grand Rounds speaker, Dr. Bonnie Spring, PhD, to join us for an intimate Q&A session on May 1st 12-1 pm (Pacific). This discussion will expand upon themes covered in his Grand Rounds talk on “Does Technology Still Need a Human to Treat Obesity?  If So, Which Human(s)?” and will be an opportunity to ask Dr. Spring questions about her work in a more conversational setting.

Lifestyle interventions for weight loss are difficult to scale. As healthcare dollars have become more stretched but the percent of the population needing obesity treatment continues to grow, the need to find low cost but effective obesity treatments has become urgent. Self-managed mobile health tools could offer effective population level obesity management. Mobile health tools for tracking diet, exercise and weight have been shown to increase engagement in behavioral obesity treatment, but it has remained unclear whether they produce clinically meaningful weight loss on their own, in the absence of support from a human coach.
